Over the past four years, I have had the opportunity to be one of the judges at the annual Let Them Eat Cake event at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The event, which benefits The Midwife Center of Pittsburgh, has enjoyed increasing success over the years. The true allure of the affair are the beautiful cakes, all of which are homemade. Take a look, pick your favorite, and even have a bite! Besides being able to enjoy the artistry of the pastries, you can listen to live music, sample delicious food, and bid on items at the silent auction.

The Midwife Center (TMC) is planning its fifth annual Let Them Eat Cake! event, scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. The event features a cake decorating and tasting contest, bar and hors d’oeuvres, live music, and silent auction. Last year the event attracted more than 250 people and 40 bakers and decorators from around the region and raised $10,000 for TMC. Tickets are available for purchase at $40 each, with a bulk rate option of $150 for groups of 5. $65 tickets can be purchased for access to the exclusive VIP reception for bakers, complete with a live, professional cake-decorating demonstration. This event attracts quite a few important personalities from the Pittsburgh area, making it a memorable occasion for all.
The mission of TMC is to provide exceptional woman-centered pregnancy, birth, and well-woman care in southwestern Pennsylvania’s only independent birth center. This event serves to benefit the overall mission of TMC. Since 2000 TMC has operated as an independent, non-profit organization.
